This bill modifies the Tribal Nation Grant Fund Program to expand its scope and streamline grant distribution for eligible tribes in California. The bill broadens the fund's sources to now include moneys from both tribal-state gaming compacts and class III gaming secretarial procedures, and establishes two types of grants: specific distribution grants and equal shares grants. Under the new provisions, the Tribal Nation Grant Fund Panel will be required to distribute at least $600,000 or 85% of available funds (whichever is greater) as equal shares grants to all eligible tribes, with these grants automatically renewing annually. Eligible tribes are defined as nongaming or limited-gaming federally recognized tribes in California, and grants cannot be used for per capita distributions or gaming-related investments.
